Dont Focus on perfection when giving first aid

Today i got the opportunity to do some assessing for students on a 3 day first aid training course Bury St Edmunds.

I really get a buzz out of it as the students start by coming into the assessment room very nervous about having to demonstrate what they have been learning to a total stranger!

i try to put them at ease by explaining that as a first aid training colchester assessor i am not looking for perfection but instead a competent and confident application of the skills learnt.

The reason for this is that in a real first aid situation a first aider is unlikely to do everything required 100% perfectly and focusing on perfection can cause you to hesitate instead of helping.

Remember “Adequate Care Provided is better than Perfect Care Withheld”

Once the students realise that they are more than capable of carrying out the practical assessments and answer the questions correctly they start to open up and actually enjoy the process!

Well done to all you today!

Meducate Training wants you

In Uncategorized on January 21, 2011 by wiggers10

Are you a first aid instructor looking to develop and grow with ambitious new first aid training provider?

Meducate Training is looking for first aid instructors to manage territories across England for Meducate Training.

The role will entail:
Seeking out new business
Marketing Meducate courses
Meeting clients
Carrying out first aid training

This is how we envisage your role working:

If you find a new client, book a course and instruct the course yourself you will receive a percentage of the profit from the course (initially around 40%)

If you are given a course by Meducate to train you receive an agreed day rate for the training.

Any courses that you book but are trained by another Meducate trainer (i.e course outside your territory) you will receive 10% of the course fees as commission.

As time goes by and you bring more money in the 40% will be gradually increased until the point where you should be receiving a maximum of 80% of the course  profit yourself.

This is a new venture which started in 2011 and we are looking for motivated people that want to develop with us.

This role is not for someone who waits by the phone expecting to be phoned and given work. You would be expected to find new business yourself by phoning emailing and visiting clients on behalf of Meducate Training.

You will receive:

Marketing Support
Email Address
First Aid Training Aids
Meducate would issue all your certificates under our centre.

You will need a laptop, car phone and access to a broadband internet connection.

First Aid Training Aids (such as mannikins etc) will be bought for you on the following basis:

1. An upfront fee payable to us for the equipment – around £1000.

2. We deduct the costs from your first payments until all equipment is paid for.

Once the equipment is paid for then it yours to keep if you decide to leave.

Your territory would be an agreed number of adjacent postcodes.

If this sounds interesting to you please call Mark on 0208 1442753 for an informal chat or email mark@meducatetraining.co.uk

i have recently started a first aid training business and the biggest thing I have noticed is there is a large number of first aid instructors out there and we are all chasing the same customers, all spending money on marketing, websites, equipment all competing with each other! no wonder the very big orgs are taking the lions share of the training!

i would like to see groups of instructors getting together and forming collectives under one banner and sharing the costs and the profits and going after the customers as one company rather than 10 separate entities. This has got to lead to economies of scale, stabilisation of prices and an increase in quality of training and leading to happier customers.

I would be very interested in talking to any first aid instructors anywhere in England that would be interested in coming under meducate training as an instructor.

I have some ideas (which i think are good) about sharing costs and profits etc and would like to put it out there and see if anyone also thinks its a good idea?
